About Me
Whakiao has been working as a psychotherapy trained counsellor and alcohol & other drug practitioner since 2010 in private practice and in organisations.
She is experienced in assessing problematic substance use and treating a range of psychological and life difficulties. For example, Abuse, Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Interpersonal Communication, Stress, and Trauma. Holistic and strength-based approaches have been her clinical focus.
Whakiao uses evidence-based approaches including Te Whare Tapa Wha, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to inform her work alongside clients. Whakiao has a welcoming, collaborative and non-judegemental style and will tailor her approach to best meet the needs of the person.

Employment Assistant Program (EAP): InStep, OCP, Vitae
Ministry of Health Approved Assessment Centre to conduct alcohol and drug assessments for driver licensing purposes.

Qualifications
Bachelor Applied Social Science (major in) Psychotherapy
